AMERICAN HORROR STORY AND RELIGION
Conclusion
American Horror Story, like many others in its genre, often uses religion as a source of content and as a means to invoke fear into its viewers, but unlike others, it not only uses the unknown and the targeting of the innocent to cause fear but also uses the corruption and wrongdoings of the church to invoke fear. While American Horror Story has much to say about the negative sides of religion, it does not take issue with all aspects of religion as it uses religious stories and knowledge to create themes, symbols, and motifs. It appears as though the programs issues with religion do not come from the act of believing in God, but instead with the problems that result from the institutionalisation of religion and the corruption of the church or those who misinterpret the readings of the bible. Though American Horror Story has received criticisms for its depiction of religion, the show does not actually seem to be overwhelmingly anti-religion.
